INFRASTRUCTURE SERVICES DIVISION

The Infrastructure Services Division provides comprehensive infrastructure services to UBT. This division has professional staff responsible for infrastructure design, installation, Data Center Operation, running over 1000+ computers and 50+servers, starting from its installation & configuration also routers and switches installation & configuration, PC installation and maintenance, phones installation and maintenance, signage screen, cable TV operations. It also provides backup, operation of the UBT network cable infrastructure that supports networking, installation, and maintenance of media-smart classrooms, design, and installation of camera security systems, and handles any IT support request.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT SECTION (DAHBAN)

TECHNICAL SUPPORT SECTION (JEDDAH)

The Technical Support Team is responsible for providing technical problem resolution to end-users by performing a question diagnosis while guiding users through systematic solutions. The main tasks of the Technical Support Team include:

  • Installing and configuring computer hardware, operating systems, and applications.
  • Monitoring and maintaining computer systems.
  • Talk users through a series of actions, either via phone, email, or chat, until they’ve solved a technical issue
  • Ask users targeted questions to quickly understand the root of the problem
  • Track computer system issues through to resolution, within agreed time limits
  • Troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware/software faults.
  • Properly escalate unresolved issues to appropriate internal teams (e.g. software developers)
  • Provide prompt and accurate feedback to users
  • Ensure all issues are properly logged
  • Prioritize and manage several open issues at one time
  • Installing printers, scanners, and required hardware.
  • Providing support, including procedural documentation and relevant reports.
  • Setting up new users' accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues.
  • Follow up with users to ensure their IT systems are fully functional after troubleshooting
  • Working continuously on a task until completion (or referral to third parties, if appropriate).
  • Testing and evaluating new technology.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports
  • Research required information using available resources.
  • Following standard processes and procedures.
  • Document technical knowledge in the form of notes and manuals
  • Identifying and escalating priority issues per client specifications.
  • Maintain jovial relationships with users

NETWORK & TELECOMMUNICATION SUPPORT SECTION

IT department provides a full range of network services to the UBT’s campuses including secure wired and wireless network connectivity providing local and Internet connections. Network services are provided for students, faculty, staff, and others with valid network access accounts. VPN Services provide off-campus access to authorized network users. The Telecommunication section is committed to providing quality products and services based on telecommunication needs.

SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR

The System Administration Team is responsible for over 50 computer servers that keep the university running on a day-to-day basis. The main tasks of the system administration team include:

  • Installing operating system for the servers.
  • Applying operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes.
  • Performing backups and recovery policy.
  • Monitoring system performance.
  • Adding, removing, or updating user account information, and resetting passwords.
